Giving a Hoot with the Owl Box Man

Hi! My name is Mike. Most people know me as the Owl Box man. How did I get that name? And what made me The Owl Box Man?

My parents brought me up from the minute I could walk to explore the mountains and anywhere where there weren’t many people but where there was plenty open space untouched and begging to be explored. Coming from Zimbabwe you tend to have the ‘bush’ in you. I took a passion and love for the outdoors and God’s creatures and turned it into my field of work.

I make and install Habitat Boxes to better attract the correct species into the immediate environment in order to gain their pest control habits towards the betterment of the natural balance. I have also been involved with specific vets for many years in helping by assisting with catching injured wildlife that are caught up in higher risk situations ie: high climbs with birds caught with wires, line etc. Trapped birds in chimneys, rooftops or the usual wildlife knocked over on national roads, from there the injured animals are taken to the vet treated and rehabbed through the correct channels.

What are the benefits of attracting Owls / bats to your garden, farm or commercial setup?

Due to habitat loss in the process of over developed areas that once harboured wildlife in abundance of the natural pest controllers, areas become overrun by pests. However, by offering these species eg: Spotted Eagle Owls/ Barn Owls a suitable nesting site with the correct habitat box one can have nature controlling the pests and avoid the use of Rodenticides which have a profoundly negative effect on the balance of the eco system. If you want to live in a balanced environment, then work with Nature and not against it.

Mike makes and offers various products and services, to list a few:

* Eagle Owl Boxes

* Barn Owl Boxes

* Falcon Boxes

* Bat Boxes

* Gecko Boxes

* Insect Habitat Boxes

*  Aviaries – Coops – Hutches

* Rodent Proofing
